May is an action-packed month for the Caribbean island of Anguilla, with activities for the adventure-seeker and book-lover alike. Anguilla events are always entertaining, and the highlights this year are the Anguilla Regatta 2015 and the Anguilla Lit Fest 2015.
The former was completed in the first half of the month (we discuss the results in this article), while the Lit Fest – “A Literary Jollification” – is scheduled towards the end of the month. May is the ideal time to spend on this beautiful exotic island, and in this article we show you why!
Anguilla Regatta 2015
Every year, Anguilla hosts a regatta that attracts competitors and spectators from throughout the Caribbean and worldwide. With three days of racing, three separate boat classes (Spinnaker, Non Spinnaker, and Multihull), and dinner & drinks events every night, the Regatta was a major highlight this year.
The Races
Taking place over May 8th, 9th, and 10th, the races brought in many competitors and countless more visitors. On the opening day, the Regatta started with one major race: from Simpson Bay (St Maarten) to Road Bay (Anguilla).
The next two days saw several races each day, as the follow-up winners were narrowed down.
Outcome: The Winners
Out of 5 races, the Spinnaker class winner was Team Island Water World, with a score of 9. Out of 4 races, the Non Spinnaker class winner was L’Esperance, with a score of 6.
Finally, out of 4 races, the Multihull class winner was Guimamalou, with a score of 6 as well. All three winning boats come from St. Maarten.
Anguilla Lit Fest 2015: A Literary Jollification
Headlined by major, internationally recognized authors, the festival attracts both published and aspiring writer attendees, in addition to casual literary lovers. It is the perfect opportunity to listen and meet amazing authors in person, while relaxing on the beach going through one of their books.
About the Anguilla Lit Fest
The yearly literature festival is being held this year at beautiful Paradise Cove Resort, and is sponsored by Cuisinart Golf Resort. The fest takes place from May 20th to 24th, and is featuring more than 12 published and highly decorated authors from around the world.
The Schedule
Many events, both scholarly and for leisure, will be taking place across the 4 day period. Featured speakers include J. Ivy, a Grammy award winning performance poet and author.
Panels with discussions such as “From Memories to Memoir: Writing Your Story” provide practical advice to writers of all skill and experience levels.
In addition to the scheduled events, many breakout opportunities exist, giving participants the chance to ask the authors questions, get autographs for beloved copies of books, and mingle with the famous.
In addition to writing and reading focused sessions, extra leisure activities such as tennis and massages are available for booking. The beautiful pools and beaches of Paradise Cove are also a popular choice during this time!
